Where do I even begin with a song that carries such an incredible vibe? Canadian artist Abel Makkonen Tesfaye—better known as The Weeknd—dropped After Hours in 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic era. Ah yes, the days of quarantine, masks, and awkwardly maintaining a three-meter distance from everyone. Not the best of times, but at least we got one of my all-time favorite records out of it.

Now, I could go on for days about how After Hours is an absolute interstellar gem, packed with incredible tracks (and trust me, I eventually will), but today, I’m zeroing in on one in particular: Save Your Tears. From the jump, the instrumentation is mesmerizing—deep, pulsing basslines, an infectious drum beat, and an atmosphere that just pulls you in. And of course, Abel’s signature vocal tone elevates the melody, ensuring the song is dripping with emotion and style.

And if you haven’t already, do yourself a favour and check out the remix featuring Ariana Grande—it’s just as fantastic as the original. But for me, the real highlight of the track comes at the very end, when Abel’s voice suddenly morphs into a robotic tone. That eerie, futuristic touch drives home the idea that we’re in a world where even AI can feel heartbreak, hauntingly delivering the line: “Save your tears for another day.”
