Québec Rock: Offenbach VS Corbeau

Over this past weekend, I came across this interesting graphic novel titled, “Québec Rock: Offenbach VS Corbeau,” by Michel Giguère Christian Quesnel, and Félix Rose. It recounts the uprising, popularity, and feud between two of Quebec’s greatest rock bands, Offenbach, and Corbeau. I don’t really read any graphic novels unless it has to do with music, but this one caught my attention. I’ve already heard of both of these bands prior to this book. And it’s pretty interesting to know the coming of both bands. It all began with Offenbach, but then later complications arose, thus causing a feud in which some of the members of the band left, forming their own called Corbeau. And took the risk by allowing Marjolène “Marjo” Morin to be the voice of the band. And, you can tell right away the tension between both bands trying to stay on top from one another. And especially for Corbeau because originally, the band members were all men, but to add a female vocalist who had this sort of will power, and powerful voice to go along the music was impressive. But, towards the end, you can tell that the feud between both bands was dying down. But, let me add another point here where, it’s no doubt that both bands put out great records too. Offenbach put out outstanding records like “En Fusion avec le Vic Vogel Big Band,” and “Traversion,” while Corbeau put out “Illégal,” and “Fou.” Each had their own particular side, and both bands established an importance within Quebec’s music scene. Offenbach became the first Quebec rock group playing the Montreal Forum, while Corbeau established themselves with their famous historic 1983 concert at the “Festival D’été Québec,” music festival. But keep in mind that, both bands can get pretty heavy, not as heavy metal, but a-bit towards heavy rock and roll, although their melodies stay interesting. And, if I had to pick one of the bands to choose from, well I couldn’t. It’s impossible even if my life depends on it! I’ve been listening to both bands for a long time, and both of them ROCK! Everytime I would hear one of both bands, there’s no doubt that I would turn the volume up. Think about this, you’ve got Gerry Boulet rough voice, and Breen Leboeuf melodic vocals sharing vocal parts within Offenbach, while Marjo’s fearless powerful vocals fits perfectly along to the music. Sure that there was this sort of music confrontation, but it was good at the same time, because it got both bands to pump out great records that are still being heard to this day.
