Ahhhhh yes…..Christmas music. Before I plunge myself more into this subject, let me be clear that I can’t stand listening to Marriah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It’s way overplayed, and it’s time to put it aside for now, and forget about it for a little while. No, I’m serious! And the best part is how I’ve also noticed that it’s started being played less, and less in stores, and over the air waves. I ain’t complaining, I’ll take it! But, there is so much great Christmas music out there that you’d probably heard, or even never heard of. Some of these classic tunes that we hear today, will remind us of our childhood, running around like an idiot in the snow, unwrapping presents right beside the Christmas tree, and even seeing friends and relatives that you haven’t heard in a while. As for me, I’ll tell you about some of the music that marked me, and a new one too that just rocks. Let’s kick off with this one here from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra called, “Christmas Canon.” The strings along with the vocal harmonies takes me back to a Christmas night where I was at my buddy’s place. He would organize this sort of wine, and cheese get together with all of our friends. And for hours, we’d be talking about anything, from laughing over silly memories that we’ve done back in high school all the way towards talking about our ambitions, those were the times that have left a HUGE mark in my book. Another song is Breda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” It’s an INSTANT CLASSIC, HANDS DOWN! First time hearing this tune was from watching the first Home Alone movie at a very young age. And every Christmas, whenever I hear this song, the volume needs to go up all the way to 11. It’s a must where it’s one of those great Christmas songs that all these years just carries a great vibe. But if we move towards our modern times, there’s “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas,” released in 2020 by Caveboy, which is NOW my all time favourite Christmas song. Just listening to the vocal harmonies reminds me as if it’s been recorded back in the 1960’s. And I came across this song for the first time just about a week ago! I didn’t know such an amazing modern Christmas song existed. Guarantee that there’s plenty of more out there, but GOD this song is great!
