Beast of Burden

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve had Beast of Burden (1978) on repeat—ladies and gentlemen, The Rolling Stones. Whether it’s the studio version from Some Girls (1978) or the electrifying Some Girls: Live in Texas ’78 (2011), both are absolute gems.

If only I could time travel back to see the Stones in their prime, playing this song live. I mean, witnessing Mick and Keith owning the stage with this track? Yes, please!

Now, I’ve got to admit—I prefer the live version. There’s just something about hearing Mick Jagger pour his soul into every lyric, while Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood trade those incredible guitar licks. And let’s not forget that opening riff—Keith sets the tone, Charlie Watts lays down a groove that pulls you in instantly, and from there, you’re hooked. It’s simple, yet unbelievably powerful.

But beyond the music, Beast of Burden carries a deeper message. Nobody wants to be a burden—we all just want to be part of something, to be committed, to push forward with purpose. And that’s exactly what this song captures so effortlessly.

Timeless. Iconic. Pure Stones magic.
